The PhD is funded by Kentown Support, a charity focused on improving community care for children with life-limiting conditions. The PhD will start in October 2025 and is funded for 3 years.

Award details

This is an outstanding development opportunity for a talented individual who wishes to conduct research with children and young people with life limiting conditions and their families.

Previous experience in this clinical field is not essential. We welcome applications from early career researchers with relevant expertise in a wide range of quantitative or qualitative methods (e.g. epidemiology, psychology, health economics, statistics, health services research), and with a commitment to conducting excellent and innovative research that will advance care, support and outcomes.

Example topic areas are below but also own ideas in the topic area are welcomed:

  1. Understanding the impact of accessing appropriate Housing – i.e. disabled facilities grant
  2. Role of education professionals in caring for children with life-limiting conditions
  3. Employment, benefits and caring: economics of the household where a child has a life-limiting condition
  4. Community palliative care for babies

This  fully funded PhD studentship  (stipend + UK Fees) will be supervised by our Chair of Palliative Care and Child Health, Lorna Fraser and  depending on the choice of project and methodology other senior staff from the Cicely Saunders Institute i.e. Dr Peter May, Dr Bethan Page, Dr Julia Hackett.
